Nnewi-ichi Ex-PG Celebrates Birthday, New Yam Festival with Less Privileged Persons

Former President General of Obiofia in Nnewi-ichi Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, Chief Michael Okonkwo weekend celebrated his birthday, enthronement as Obi of his kindred and new yam amidst pump and pageantry.

Chief Ibeokonkwo who is also the Obi Umudala Ogbuji in Obiofia during the occasion, feasted with less privileged in the society in his Umuezize country home in Obiofia, Nnewi-ichi.

Speaking with journalists, Ibeokonkwo said he has been celebrating new yam festival on August 22 since 2014.

“I always look forward to the day because of the unique opportunity to host family, friends and much more important feasting the less privileged persons in the society.

“It’s also an occasion to appreciate God for His mercies, protection and blessing upon me, my family, kindred, friends and well wishers,” he said.

While revealing that the occasion coincided with the day he was enthroned as Obi of Umudala Ogbuji, Ibeokonkwo said he might not have won the exalted position if it was through elective process.

“I thank God for counting me worthy to be the Chosen One. I did not merit the position but got there through the special grace of God’s favour, mercy, grace and Divine arrangement as the mantle fell on me,” he added.

On his part, Obi Obiofia, Chief Chukwunoye Onyejuluwam described Ibeokonkwo as philanthropist of repute and personality worthy of emulation.

“His honesty, humility and generosity are qualities that makes him stand out amongst his equals,” said.

Madukaejiaka recalled that Ifeuto Anaedo as the PG of Obiofia Nnewi-Ichi Nnewi, solved many crises in the community, brought unity to the polarized people as well as installed legacy projects under his watch.

“When the righteous is in power, the people rejoice, Ifeuto Anaedo reign as PG of Obiofia brought greatest happiness to a greater number of our people.

“He puts smile on faces of whole lot of people and he has continued in his commitment without looking back,” Obi Obiofia asserted.
