Members of Obidient Movement Stakeholders came out in large numbers on Friday aa Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Chief Dr George Moghalu formally kicked off his campaign at the All Saints Cathedral field, Onitsha.
Drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, under the banner, Obidients for Moghalu, and supported by a March Band, the Obidient Movement Stakeholders paraded round the arena filed by Labour Party members and supporters.
Lead Coordinator of the movement, Chief Charles Obiora Anueyiagu, disclosed that Obidient Movement members came in large numbers to demonstrate that they possess the largest political support base in Nigeria. “The crowd of Obidient Movement that attended the campaign flag off at the All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha was small compared to what we had. We decided to mobilize just few officials.
“Regardless of what anyone thinks, Obidient has the largest political support base in Nigeria, and Anambra is the base of that movement. So, we are a big factor in this governorship race”, Anueyiagu said.
The grand event witnessed formal presentation of flag to the LP Governorship Candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu (Ohamadike) and his Deputy, Lady Ifeoma Veronica Okaro before a massive crowd of supporters.
Top political figures at the event includes the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, Senators representing Anambra North and Central Senatorial Districts, Tony Nwoye and Victor Umeh, House of Reps Members, Prof. Lilian Orogbu (Awka North and South Federal Constituency), Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo (Idemili North/South), Hon. Emeka Iduu (Onitsha North/South), Hon. George Ozodinobi (Njikoka/Dunukofia), Hon. Afam Ogene (Ogbaru).
Also in attendance were some Labour Party members at the Anambra State House of Assembly.
In his address, Mr. Peter Obi reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Labour Party, clarifying his continued membership and his role in the coalition that has adopted the ADC platform for the 2027 presidential elections.
He called on Anambra citizens to back Moghalu, describing him as the most qualified and visionary choice for leadership.
“The candidature of George Moghalu is the best thing that has happened to Anambra State,” Obi asserted. “I did well as governor. Moghalu will do better. Anambra must not miss this opportunity.”
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, announced full support for Moghalu, pledging a robust grassroots mobilization effort. “The Obidient Movement stands firmly behind Dr. George Moghalu. We will mobilize in every ward and polling unit to deliver victory. He embodies integrity and capacity,” Tanko declared.
During his brief address, Senator Tony Nwoye pledged his support for Moghalu, and his readiness to undertake a rigorous campaign across all local government areas within Anambra North to ensure that he wins the election.
Senator Victor Umeh, on his own, hailed Moghalu and his running mate, describing them as honest, competent, and focused on sustainable development. He emphasized the need for a campaign centered on progressive ideas and pledged his full support for Moghalu throughout the electioneering process.
Hon. Uche Okonkwo, who spoke on behalf of LP members in the House of Representatives, affirmed their unanimous support of Dr. George Moghalu’s candidacy. He emphasized that their campaign strategy would be grassroots-focused and organically driven, with direct engagement through door-to-door mobilization to secure victory.
In his acceptance speech, Moghalu thanked the party leadership and supporters, pledging to serve with transparency, purpose, and divine guidance. He and Mrs. Okaro expressed a shared commitment to usher Anambra into an era of enduring prosperity.
Ven. Christian Ohajekwe, speaking on behalf of the state leadership of the Labour Party, expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s ticket. He called on all members and supporters across Anambra State to unite behind Dr. George Moghalu and work collectively toward victory in the upcoming election.
The rally also drew dignitaries including Hon. Kawhariebie Ken Pela, LP’s 2023 governorship candidate for Delta State; Chief Clement Ojukwu, LP National Deputy Chairman; and Mrs. Dudu Manuga, National Woman Leader of the Labour Party. The event marked a powerful display of unity, purpose, and momentum that will reshape Anambra’s political future.
