The Labour Party gubernetorial candidate for the upcoming November election in Anambra State, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, has declared an end to factionalism and vowed to lead inclusively.
Moghalu made the declaration during a gathering with members of the Anambra State Labour Party Caretaker Committee at his residence in Uruagu, Nnewi.
The meeting, which brought together different factions of the party executives, marked a pivotal moment in reconciliation efforts and demonstrated the party’s dedication to presenting a united front.
Addressing the attendees, Dr. Moghalu, a former Managing Director at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), acknowledged the existing disagreements within the party upon his entry on October 1, 2024, and expressed no ill feelings towards any individual or group.
“I encountered these disagreements upon joining the party on October 1st. I bear no grudges against anyone. My sole aim is to build a cohesive Labour Party capable of winning elections and governing effectively,” he affirmed.
The party’s standard-bearer urged members to put past conflicts aside and concentrate on the shared goal of electoral triumph, emphasizing that internal harmony is imperative.
“It is an honor to have you all here,” he stated. “Let’s move past our differences and focus on securing victory in this election. I aspire to see a united Labour Party, as only together can we achieve success.”
Dr. Moghalu also disclosed plans for a thank-you tour across the 21 local government areas in Anambra state to enhance grassroots engagement and invigorate party structures. He pledged to ensure the harmonious collaboration of both executive committees in formulating a shared roadmap for peace and progress.
“No one can accomplish this alone. Each of you has a role in your respective constituencies. Everyone present will serve on the campaign council. With your support, we will safeguard the interests of the Labour Party in every community throughout the state,” he added.
Reaffirming his faith-based leadership approach, Moghalu stated, “My Bible teaches me that destiny may be delayed, but it cannot be denied. It is God who elevates and humbles rulers. I implore you to continue praying for me and trusting in my leadership. I will not betray the trust you have placed in me.”
In response, Hon. Chidozie Sebastian, Chairman of the Anambra Labour Party Caretaker Committee, asserted that the meeting signaled the end of internal discord in the party.
“With this gathering, there will be no more factions within the Labour Party in Anambra State. We now stand as a united Labour Party, committed to ensuring the party’s success in this election,” he proclaimed.
He also expressed unwavering confidence in Moghalu’s candidacy, lauding him as a unifying figure widely accepted across the spectrum.
Dr. Ejezie Ifeoma, the State Woman Leader, pledged the wholehearted support of women across the state.
“People genuinely adore you, irrespective of financial incentives. When you educate a woman, you educate a nation. Women stand in solidarity with you,” she affirmed.
Comrade Obiora Ochiudo, Chairman of Idemili North Local Government, echoed the grassroots dedication to attaining victory.
“My vision is to witness George Moghalu at Agu Awka. We will labor tirelessly to make that vision a reality.”
The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement among party stakeholders to close ranks and forge ahead with renewed determination. Equipped with a united base, strategic focus, and widespread support, Chief Dr. George Moghalu is positioning the Labour Party as a reputable and formidable contender in the 2025 Anambra governorship race.
