Embattled Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has drawn the battle line, urging citizens under his reign to brace up for the epic power showdown.

The Governor, made the declaration on Monday, hours after a state-wide broadcast in reaction to last Fridayโ€™s Supreme Court judgement, sacking all the Local Government Area Chairmen, elected on October 5, 2024 and restoring power to the Group of 27 members of the House of Assembly led by Martin Amawuhle.

The pronouncement by the apex court, also ordered the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), not to remit revenues accruing to the state from the Federation Account, pending when the governor would present the state budget to the G27.

But, Fubara, who had earlier on Sunday, vowed that he would obey the orders immediately he got the Certified True Copy and studied it with a team of the lawyers of the government, however, in a more defiant tone, said he was not afraid to take the bulls by the horns regarding the affairs of the state. At the inauguration of the residential quarters for the government house staff in Port Harcourt, the state capital, told his audience that the worst thing that could happen to him was to leave the position of the governor, lamenting that his enemies would always choose to strike anytime his administration wanted to achieve stability by sowing one obstacle or the other on the way in their attempts to bring it to ground zero.

Amid the cheering crowd, the governor, who commended the people for supporting his administration amid the political crisis in the state, stated: โ€œNo matter how we have been fooled in this state, it has gotten to the point where the state has decided to take their destinies in their hands. Inasmuch as I donโ€™t subscribe to violence, when the time comes for us to make a decision, I will lead the course for that decision.

โ€œIโ€™m not scared of anything; the worst that can happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth? Will it stop me from existing? Iโ€™m not bothered about that. The right thing must be done and said when the opportunity is given to us.โ€
