National Association of Seadogs, Onitsha Chapter has embarked on de-silting of drainage along Awka road by Ogboli Road Inland Town Onitsha, Anambra State.

The de-silting which covered Ogboli road junction to Emmanuel Church Road Onitsha was done in partnership with Onitsha North Transport Agency who assisted in controlling traffic around the project site.

Shop owners and residents were marvelled as the area was usually overflown with water, especially during rainfall, causing lots of inconveniences to them.

President of the body, Engr Emeka Uwaechia said the exercise was in line with NAS Policy on United Nations Sustainable development goals 2024 and policy of the State and Local Government on keeping all drainages clean.

He said, “NAS Onitsha Chapter has taken to be doing this once every month in a bid to align with the policy of the State and Local Government on keeping all drainages in the state open and free for flow of liquid wastes.

“It’s also in line with NAS Policy on United Nations Sustainable development goals 2024. Nothing is greater that Service to Humanity.

“We also embarked on sensitisation campaign to inform and educate motorists on the meanings of different traffic Signs.

“We took up the responsibility because we observed that majority of motorists are ignorant of the meaning of the traffic signs and traffic lights signs.

While distributing handbills stipulating the sign and meanings of traffic symbols to motorists along Awka Road and upper iweka axis, the group called on the State Government to enact enablings laws to enable motorists that failed to obey the traffic signs to be prosecuted.
