Igbo Group Decries Under-reportage of Corruption in Nigeria

The Igbos For Progressive And United Nationhood (IPAN) has called on Nigerians to insist on speaking out against corruption as one sure way of fighting the scourge.

The President, Comrade Lawrence Onuzulike gave the advise while speaking on “Empowering Citizens: Uniting Against Corruption”, during the “Good Morning Anambra” on ABS TV, Awka, Anambra State in commemoration of the 2023 World Anti-Corruption Day.

He encouraged Nigerians to report corruption, stressing that when people know they’ll be exposed, they may be scared to commit crime.

He however regretted that many Nigerians were yet to know how to go about reporting corruption.

He said, “It’s highly unfortunate how corruption has eaten deep into the system, how Nigerians now lack trust in both the governments and in the institutions created to fight against corruption.

“It’s more worrisome with most former EFCC chairmen being accused of corrupt practices.

“As solution, I call on Nigerians to start speaking out against corruption. I encouraged Nigerians to report corruption because when people know they’ll be exposed, they may be scared to commit crime.

“But then, will the people reported be punished? Will the whistleblowers he protected? Do Nigerians even know how to go about reporting corruption?

“The power to end corruption in Nigeria, ultimately rests with the people. We must not accept the current situation as the norm. Nigerians need to wake up.”
