The member-elect, Anambra State House of Assembly, Oyi constituency, Innocent Ojike has announced a N10,000 monthly salary to the elderly in his constituency in fulfillment of this campaign promises to his constituents.
Twenty persons of Umuanunwa kindred of Nteje were paid for the month of March, while scores received theirs for the months of January and February.
Speaking during a brief ceremony held in the community, Ojike said the gesture was targeted at supporting the elderly who could not no longer work for a living.
“I decided to embark on the project after being touched by many elderly people who waited patiently for me for a very long time during my campaign,” he said.
The lawmaker also announced his plans to empower Oyi youths through his Human Capital Development scheme and scholarships for brilliant students in the area.
Reacting, President-General, Nteje Development Union, Dr Nnamdi Iloduba praised the lawmaker for keeping to his campaign promises, describing him as a good man.
“What he did is not common with conventional politicians; most political office holders never deem it necessary to honour promises they made to the people,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries of the monthly payment, Patrick igbokwe commended the legislature for ldentifying with the elderly in the community.
He assured him of continued support of people of his community throughout his political career, while praying for God’s protection and guidance.
Igbokwe however appealed to him to facilitate the construction of the Achalla-Agu to Amadi-abba Nteje road in view of its strategic nature, just as he regretted epileptic power supply in Nteje community.
Other speakers at the event which include, Mrs Theresa obalim and Mr Edwin Achebe prayed for the successful tenure of the newly elected legislator.
