The Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has congratulated the people of Abia State ahead of Governor Alex Otti’s re-election campaign flag-off scheduled for Sunday at the Umuahia Township Stadium, commending the governor over what it described as significant strides in infrastructure development and governance since assuming office in May 2023.
The State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Chukwunulu Okoye, made the commendation while speaking with journalists on Saturday in Anambra.
Okoye, who spoke on behalf of the State Executive Council, party members and its candidates for the 2027 elections, described Otti’s administration as a reference point for discussions on governance, accountability and public service delivery in Nigeria.
He said the governor had recorded notable progress across critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, economic management, workers’ welfare and security.
According to the LP chairman, Abia State has witnessed the completion of 414 road projects covering more than 800 kilometres under Otti’s administration.
He listed some of the projects to include the Port Harcourt and Ohanku Roads in Aba, the six-lane Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard in Umuahia, Omenuko Bridge and the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road.
Okoye also highlighted the introduction of electric buses and green shuttle services, describing them as initiatives aimed at modernising public transportation and stimulating economic activities across the state.
On fiscal management, he claimed that the Otti-led government had reduced Abia’s inherited public debt profile by more than 70 per cent, attributing the development to what he described as prudent financial management and improved fiscal discipline.
In the health sector, the LP chairman said the administration had recruited nearly 1,000 healthcare professionals, rehabilitated primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, and committed approximately 15 per cent of the state budget to healthcare delivery.
He further disclosed that more than 5,000 teachers had been recruited in a single exercise as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector and improve learning outcomes.
On youth empowerment and technology development, Okoye said the Abia government had earmarked over N300 million for technology-driven enterprises and training programmes in artificial intelligence, software engineering and cybersecurity.
He also commended the administration for what he described as improved workers’ welfare, citing regular payment of salaries and pensions, alongside civil service reforms intended to promote transparency, accountability and merit-based recruitment.
On security, the LP chairman praised the deployment of technology-driven surveillance systems and collaborative security arrangements, which he said were part of the government’s efforts to tackle criminal activities and improve public safety.
Describing Governor Otti as a “shining ambassador” of the Labour Party, Okoye said the governor’s administration reflected the party’s stated ideals of productivity, prudence, accountability and people-oriented governance.
He added that the governor’s performance had continued to attract attention beyond Abia State, particularly among party members and supporters interested in governance reforms.
“As a party, we are proud of the strides recorded in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti. His administration has demonstrated the importance of prioritising infrastructure, strengthening public institutions and placing the welfare of citizens at the centre of governance,” Okoye said.
The Anambra LP chairman wished Governor Otti and the people of Abia State a successful campaign flag-off, while praying for journey mercies for participants and continued peace, progress and development in the state.
He urged party members, supporters and well-wishers to sustain their commitment to the ideals of responsible leadership and good governance.
