UNIZIK Students Complete Six-Month Firefighting Training in Anambra

Students of the Department of Environmental Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, have successfully completed a six-month Industrial Training (IT) programme with the Anambra State Fire Service.

The training concluded with a grand finale at the State Fire Service Headquarters in Awka, where the students demonstrated the practical firefighting and fire prevention skills they acquired during the programme.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Chiketa Chukwudi, said the students demonstrated proficiency in wet and dry firefighting techniques, fire extinguisher handling, hose coupling and deployment, pump operations, and live-fire suppression.

He commended the students for their discipline, commitment, and dedication throughout the six-month programme.

Chiketa also encouraged the students to apply the knowledge and experience gained during the training to their future careers and communities, urging them to serve as responsible Fire Safety Ambassadors.

The grand finale featured intensive wet and dry fire safety drills, alongside a comprehensive General Fire Prevention and Safety Demonstration. The exercises were designed to consolidate the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired by the students throughout their industrial training.

The programme highlighted the importance of practical fire safety education in equipping Environmental Science students with essential skills for fire prevention, emergency response, and community safety.
