A shocking case has ignited outrage across social media after an Onitsha-based Nigerian mother allegedly admitted to sexually abusing her 7-year-old daughter and using the abuse to produce online content.
In a statement attributed to the woman, she pleaded with Nigerians for forgiveness: “Nigerians, please forgive me. It’s the handiwork of the devil.”
She reportedly said she had made only $300 from the content, while acknowledging that what she allegedly did to her daughters was wrong. “I’m really sorry. What I did to my daughters was very wrong. It is not good in any way.”
The woman further claimed that the disturbing videos circulating online were genuine and not AI-generated. “The videos are not AI. They are real videos.”
The allegations have provoked intense anger and condemnation, particularly because the alleged victim is a child who was reportedly abused by someone responsible for her care and protection.
While the woman’s explanation that it was the “devil’s handiwork” has drawn criticism, the central issue remains the alleged abuse of a vulnerable child and the need for immediate intervention, investigation and protection.
A child is not content. A child is not a source of income. And abuse can never be justified by financial gain.
