The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abayomi Peter Oladipo, has retired from the Nigeria Police Force, drawing the curtain on a career defined by professionalism, discipline and commitment to national security.
Oladipo, who served as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13, Ukpo, Anambra State, covering Anambra and Enugu states, was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector General on April 22, 2026, shortly before his retirement. His exit was marked by a ceremonial pull-out parade at the Zonal Headquarters in Dunukofia Local Government Area, in an event that also coincided with his birthday.

The ceremony attracted top security officials and stakeholders, including Commissioners of Police from Anambra, Enugu and Delta states, alongside representatives of other security agencies. Speakers at the event paid glowing tributes to Oladipo’s leadership, highlighting his contributions to strengthening security operations and fostering inter-agency cooperation across the South-East.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described him as a disciplined and dependable officer, while his counterparts from Enugu and Delta states, Mamman Bitrus Giwa and Oyeniyi Yemi John, respectively, praised him as a mentor and father figure who positively shaped the careers of many officers.
Representatives of sister agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Department of State Services, also commended Oladipo for promoting synergy among security institutions in combating crime and enhancing public safety. They noted that his leadership improved coordinated responses to security challenges within the zone.
In his remarks, Oladipo expressed appreciation to colleagues, stakeholders and guests for their support throughout his career.

He charged officers of the Nigeria Police Force to remain disciplined, professional and respectful in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing the Force’s core responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He stressed that effective policing depends on sustained collaboration among security agencies and the public, noting that intelligence sharing and community engagement are essential in addressing evolving security threats. He added that public trust remains fundamental to achieving lasting peace and stability.
Oladipo also emphasized the need for adaptive and forward-looking strategies to tackle emerging threats, including transnational crime, cybercrime and organized criminal networks. He called for a proactive and globally aligned security framework, warning that modern criminal activities increasingly transcend national borders.

He further highlighted the importance of continuous capacity building, adoption of modern technology and strengthened international partnerships in enhancing law enforcement effectiveness. According to him, sustained investment in training and intelligence systems is critical to improving operational response to global security challenges.
Oladipo served as the 8th AIG of Zone 13, having assumed office in March 2025, and was widely credited with enhancing peace and stability in Anambra and Enugu states during his tenure.
The event featured cultural displays, a tug-of-war contest, cake-cutting ceremony and presentation of gifts.

Among dignitaries present were the traditional ruler of Dunukofia, Igwe Robert Eze, representatives of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the Police Community Relations Committee, and other key stakeholders.
His retirement marks the end of an era, as he leaves behind a legacy of integrity, leadership and dedicated service to the nation.
