Expert Raises Alarm over Rising Cardiovascular Diseases, Urges Govt, Stakeholders Intervention

A Consultant Family Physician at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi Doctor Ngozi Okonkwo has raised alarm over Increasing cases of cardiovascular diseases, urging government intervention and assistance from stakeholders.

Dr Okonkwo stated this during a medical outreach and health awareness for the people of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.

According to the medical expert, the issues of hypertension, elevated blood pressure and diabetes has continued to rise in the society resulting in the death of many who in some cases just slump and die.

Doctor Okonkwo therefore noted that the situation has called for concerted effort like public health awareness and outreach to sensitize the people on the need to always go for medical checks to Ascertain their health conditions.

She said the program which is made available by the Member representing Idemili North and South constituency at the National Assembly, Mr Uche Okonkwor was part of the steps towards ensuring that those at the grassroots know their sugar level, Blood pressure, vision status, among other health challenges.

In an interview, the Member representing Idemili North and South at the National Assembly, Mr Uche Okonkwor said there was the need to educate the people on some of the things they can eat or avoid in other to live healthy and strong hence the outreach.

The Law Maker noted that without good health it was almost impossible for his constituents to be productive or be efit from the dividends being attracted from the National Assembly for their well-being.

Mr Okonkwor said the idea was to provide medical and routine checks for them especially in the area of optical calibration, cancer awareness and malaria which is posing serious challenge to the people.

He also used the medium to confirm his defection from the Labour Party, to the ADC notin that he will not only support the Presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi but will also contest for a second term in office.

Some of the residents who benefited the gesture including Mr Titus Orji and Mr Ifeanyichukwu Emefo thanked their benefactor for providing them with such a wide scope of medical testes , drugs and treatment which according to them will go a long way to assist them to imbi e a healthy living.

Our Correspondent reports that the medical outreach wicj was don in conjunction with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital and Annie Okonkwor foundation saw more than. 5000 persons from Idemili North and South Federal Constituency benefitting the kind gesture.
