Anambra Executive Council Approves N777 Million for Infrastructure, Security Projects

Anambra State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved the release of over N777 million for strategic infrastructure and security-related projects across the state.

The approvals include N164.4 million as cost overrun for the construction of an IAAF-standard five-lane spray system track and natural grass pitch at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex in Aguata Local Government Area.

The Council also approved N72.7 million for road marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the 10.043-kilometre newly constructed Afor Nkporโ€“Eke Obosi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a Press Statement made available by the Commissioner for Information, Doctor Law Mefor, council also approved N122 million for the supply and installation of 10 formatted 40-foot containers at multiple locations to serve as temporary accommodation for security personnel.

Other projects approved include N172.2 million for the construction of an asphalt surface on the internal dual carriage driveway at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Awka; N176 million for asphalt surfacing of the service lane to the State House of Assembly and the State High Court Complex, Awka; and N72.6 million for additional road marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the Afor Nkporโ€“Eke Obosi Road.

The Council also reviewed and welcomed the sentencing of an Anambra-based native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa แปŒkแปฅkแปฅ Tiwara Akแป‹, as well as the demolition of his shrine and ritual objects, describing the development as part of efforts to strengthen moral and social values in the state.

The Executive Council viewed the action on the native doctor as a step towards reinforcing social order, stressing that the Igbo philosophy of hard work remains central to the stateโ€™s vision.
