Any child who fails to attend school on Mondays shall be suspended for one week, Anambra state government has said.
Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh gave the warning in her office while addressing managements of Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy all in GRA Onitsha.
She said the warning followed directive from the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, saying the schools were invited to explain their reasons for disobeying Governor’s directive on attendance to classes on Mondays.
While the Mount Olive Schools claimed there has been improved attendance in their school, the Spring Field Academy said parents have not been eager to bring their children.
They promised to make more efforts to ensure that the children attend schools on Mondays.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Education through the Examination Development Center has conducted the 2026 Transition Placement Examination.
Commissioner Chuma-Udeh, in company of the Permanent Secretary, Dr Mrs Ifeoma Agbaizu, monitored the examination at various centers in the State.
The center covered were UNIZIK Demonstration School, Igwebeze Primary School Ifite Awka and Igwebike Grammar School Awka, where the examinations recorded hitch-free conclusion.
