Over 1000 persons on Monday benefited from the benevolence of Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma in Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi local government area of Anambra state.

The beneficiaries, including widows and elderly received bags of rice and other food items, together with cash gifts after being fed with sumptuous meal.

Speaking during a brief mass ahead of the distribution, the cleric, popularly known as Ebube Monso said the gesture which had become annual event was targeted at alleviating the plights of the vulnerable.

He also promised to increase the allowances of the elderly who had been on his payroll.

“I’m been doing this for over 24 years. Even before I was ordained a priest, I’ve been giving out Christmas gifts from my little savings. It was only magnified after my ordination.

“The benevolence went higher after my mum’s death. Infact, I’m philanthropic by nature. And the whole essence is to alleviate poverty and burdens of the poor.

“We have more than enough to go round. We’re also expecting another trailer load of bags of rice. You have the one to eat and the one to go home with,” he added.

Traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Obiora Anachuna appreciated the priest for his magnanimity, praying God to bless him with long life and good health.

He also appealed to him to remember the community in his daily prayers over the crisis rocking the community.

Also speaking, a philanthropist, Vitalis Nwakobi described the benefactor as role model and cleric per excellence.

“Father Ebube Monso’s genuine love for humanity is unparalleled. He’s a role model to all of us because what concerns humanity touches him.

“We’re not surprised with this gesture he’s carrying out today. We only wish others will emulate and even surpass him,” he stressed.
