Anambra Govt Hails NUJ Correspondent Chapel Members over Responsible, Balanced Reportage

Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chief Ernest Ezeajughi has described Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council as key to the solution government.

Ezeajughi stated this on Thursday at the Correspondents’ Chapel end-of-year party also described the Chapel as one of the most formidable bodies of journalists in the state.

The Chief of Staff, represented by Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor commended members of the Chapel for their responsible and balanced reportage especially ahead of the November 8 Guber poll.

He said, “Your constituency is important to the solution government and we must maintain that healthy relationship.

“We as govt appreciate the way you report the state through responsibile journalism and strategic communications.

“You don’t suppress the truth, but you go beyond mere reporting. Your objective reportage, especially in the build up of the election enabled Ndị Anambra to make responsible decisions on who to vote.

“This also contributed to the peaceful atmosphere the state enjoyed before, during and after the election.”

Earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Chief Chuks Ilozue said the event offered members opportunity to appreciate God for his faithfulness and mercy amidst challenges.

Describing 2025 as chequered year with records of the good and the ugly, Ilozue regretted the intractable union dispute with the mother body.

He however acknowledged efforts of the Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu towards resolving the dispute, just as he thanked those who supported the family of member of the Chapel, late Alphonsus Nweze who lost his life to road crash.

He solicited support of the Governor to the plight of the deceased family; and to assist the Chapel to complete repair of its bus also involved in accident.

“But in every thing we give thanks. We were not deterred by the negative forces that attempted to cripple us. Instead, the Chapel blossomed with members winning awards at state and national level,” he added.

Highpoint of the occasion was award presentation to winners of Correspondents’ Chapel Media Merit Award instituted by a philanthropist and lover of the Correspondents.

While Aloysius Attah of the Sun newspapers came top to bag the award, Emma Elekwa of the Nation newspapers and Emma Uzor of the Sun won the first and second runners-up respectively.

The team of judges of the award, Prof. Angela Nwamo, Sir Victor Agusiobo and Chief Gab Okpaleze had earlier read out the criteria for the assessment of the award.

The event also witnessed award presentations to the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okeoma and Member representing Awka North and South Constituencies, Prof Lilian Orogbu.
