The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Anambra State, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says the budget performance for the 2025 fiscal year stands at 61 percent as at October this year.
Mrs Nnake who stated this during a Budget breakdown with the media, said despite 2025 being an election year, the state achieved impressive 61 percent Budget implementation which is heavy on infrastructural development.
She said by the time most of the roads under construction were completed, the budget performance for the 2026 fiscal year would be more than 71 percent which was achieved in 2024.
Speaking on the 2026 Budget which was presented by the Governor , the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget said the state plans to complete and commence new road projects at the sum of 250 billion naira by 2026 while new cities development including Greater Niger, Aerotropolis, Industrial cities and Awka 2.0 will gulp 75 billion naira in the 2026 fiscal year.
Mrs Nnake explained that the state plans also to develop new educational institutions at the cost of 22 billion naira, provide supplementary funds to secondary schools at One Billion naira as well as provide transport to schools at 250 million naira in the coming year.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget said there will be construction of specialist medical Diagnostic Centres at the cost of 4 billion naira and construction and equipment of College of Nursing and Extension of Amaku Teaching Hospital Aguata at the cost of 46 billion naira.
She further explained that 29 billion naira is budgeted for the provision of medical equipment and maintenance while one billion naira will be expended on the Extension of free antenatal and delivery policy of the state government to reduce maternal mortality.
She noted that 5 billion naira was budgeted for the extension of power to underserved areas and solar streetlights as well as solar for government offices in 2026 fiscal year.
The Commissioner further explained that the state appropriated 5 billion naira for erosion control which is one of the major challenges confronting the state while One Billion will be used for sustaining security , purchase of Armoured Personnel Carriers and other Security equipment.
