Abia Firstlady Urges Broadcasters to Uphold Journalism Professional Standard for Better Society

‎Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidimma Otti, has underscored the importance of integrity, commitment and passion by broadcasters to enhance the needed positive changes for a better society.

The first lady spoke during the 2nd Induction ceremony and Annual conference of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) Abia State.

‎Otti, represented by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Prof Ijeoma Iheukwumere, pledged her support to the organisation in its journey to attain greater heights.

‎Delivering a lecture titled “Unbundling of Mass Communication: Benefits and Challenges to the Broadcaster”, the Managing Director, Signature TV, Enugu, Chief Vin-Martin Iloh, commended the initiative and called for a legislative framework to that effect.

‎He made a strong case for higher institutions that offer Mass communication to have functional TV or radio stations to enable their students become well grounded in their field and area of choice before graduating.

‎Iloh encouraged broadcasters to be creative and use the online space to showcase their creativity and generate income, as most media houses now find it difficult to pay salaries.

He encouraged media houses to take online presence seriously and reap the financial benefits.

‎The National President of SNB, Prof. Umar Pate, represented by the National Vice President Southeast, Sir Chimdi Oluoha congratulated the inductees for taking the bold step to become members of the Abia State Chapter

He encouraged other Southeastern states to organize their people and get them inducted as there are many benefits of joining the professional body.

‎Earlier, Abia State Chairman of SNB, Comrade Chinezerem Agbakuru enjoined the new members to take the association seriously by attending their monthly meetings where they would receive free trainings which would benefit them beyond their work places.

‎She thanked the wife of the Governor for gracing the occasion and used the opportunity to plead with the state government through the Ministry of Lands to graciously allocate land to the association for its permanent structure.

‎Agbakuru further thanked everyone who contributed to making the event a success.

‎Dignitaries from all walks of life attended the occasion which had as it’s highlight, the swearing in of the 14 inductees.
