A Group operating under the umbrella of Divine Active Men/Women In Agriculture, has called on both federal and state governments to provide support services and implement programmes to help them in contributing to food security amid hardship.

President of the group, Amb Chiemeka Ositadinma, made the appeal through a press statement, shortly after the commemoration of World Food Day at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

She emphasized that food sufficiency could be achieved by government providing them with farm inputs, fertilizers, loans and grants as well as subsidies to enable them to sell food products at affordable prices.

“One of the key strategies for achieving food security is to empower our farmers, who are the backbone of our agricultural sector.

“This can be done by providing us with resources, trainings and market access.

“Our mission is to ensure that citizens have access to nutritious food, and that our food system is resilient and sustainable”

The President further appealed to government to urgently invest in training of its members for adoption of modern agricultural practices to enhance food availablity and to bridge the gap between farmers and industry.

While calling on government to increase support services for farmers to also reduce dependence on imported food items, Ositadinma expressed their commitment to contribute to reducing hunger, poverty and improving livelihoods in the nation.

She affirmed their readiness to collaborate with other stakeholders and knowledge exchange in strengthening the nation’s food systems.

“We are ready to demonstrate the profitability of agriculture among men and women in Nigeria. We want to promote food security and create employment,” she added.
