Traditional rulers and residents of Awka Ward 8 have thrown their weight behind the re-election of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim. The endorsement came during the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Ward 8 rally and inauguration of its polling unit campaign council held at Ukwu Orji Market Square, Permanent Site, Government House, Awka.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Benjamin Okeji, reaffirmed the collective endorsement of Governor Soludo by traditional rulers across the state. He commended the governor’s visible achievements, describing APGA as the voice of Ndi Igbo and the political identity of the South East.

Igwe Okeji prayed for continued progress in the state, declaring that Soludo has no contender in the forthcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election and urged total support for his re-election.

In his remarks, the Ward 8 Campaign Council Chairman, Chief Obiora Nwachukwu, said the ward was solidly behind Governor Soludo and would deliver 98 percent of votes for him at the polls. He urged members to intensify their campaigns and ensure that APGA records a landslide victory.

Also speaking, the Supervisor for Education in Awka South Local Government Area, Mrs. Vera Atuigwe, expressed delight at the massive turnout and commended Governor Soludo performance.

She, however, highlighted some of the ward challenges, including the lack of a government school and health center which forces children to cross the expressway to attend school.

She appealed for the conversion of the defunct National Light Newspaper Corporation building into an educational facility and called for the rehabilitation of St. Thomas Aquinas Road to ease vehicular movement.

However, Mrs. Atuigwe thanked the government for providing pipe-borne water in the area and reaffirmed that Ward 8 remains firmly APGA.

In his response, the Awka South Campaign Council Chairman and Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko, commended the impressive turnout, describing it as the largest gathering in the ward history.

He praised Ward 8 for its consistent support for APGA and urged residents to vote massively across all 34 polling units.

Dr. Onuko emphasized that APGA remains the dominant political party in Anambra State and the South East, declaring that “there is no APC in the state.”

He added that voter participation was key to ensuring a credible election, encouraging everyone to come out on election day and cast their votes.

The event attracted traders, members of the Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State and the Solution Integrity Widows led by Mrs. Comfort Igboanugo, who all pledged their support for Soludo’s re-election.
