Newly elected President General of Umuchu Improvement Union Representatives Assembly, UIURA, Hon. Ifeanyi Emegwa has pledged his preparedness to serve with humility and transparency.
The PG who made the pledge during his acceptance speech shortly after he was elected appreciated the delegates for the confidence reposed in him.
He described the exercise as a free, fair credible and keenly contested town Union election.
Addressing the delegates, Secretary of the electoral committee, Vitus Uzoh appealed to the delegates to be true representatives of their various wards and sections through active participation in the Town Union meetings.
“You should not just take part in the election. Non participation and non attendance to UIURA meetings sets the community’s programmes backward,” he stressed.
Earlier, the outgoing President General, Nze Charles Ezenwabasili thanked the delegates and the entire people of Umuchu for the opportunity to serve.
He enjoined them to also extend hands of fellowship to the incoming executives.
The 116 electoral delegates were drawn from the 35 wards within the 3 quarters in Umuchu, comprising Ihite, Amanasaa, and Okpunachala; 15 Branches and 20 Age grades in Umuchu.
The election held at Umuchu Civic Centre, Umuchu by the electoral committee chaired by Mr. Basil Ezeigwe commenced with the accreditation of the delegates followed by secret ballot voting.
The exercise was witnessed by Igwe-in-Council, led by traditional Prime Minister of Umuchu, Chief Alphonsus Obidike; Head of Department, Town Union Matters, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony Onyekwelu.
Others were President General of Uga Community, Chief Romanus Umenze among other Anambra State Town Union Officers.
Ifeanyi Emegwa polled 64 votes to emerge the winner, Ogbuehi Raphael came distant second with 43 votes while Mbachu secured 9 votes.
Other elected Officers were 1st Vice President, Dr. Afam Ezechukwu; 2nd Vice President, Chinedu Ezekwike; Secretary General, Mr. Frank Uduonu; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Maduabuchi Ezenwa; Financial Secretary, Comrade Lotanna Ejezie; Treasurer, Mr. Kelechi Ekezie; PRO, Mr. Okey Umewereaku; and Provost, Mr. Ikechukwu Aghara.
The newly elected officers took the oath of office and were subsequently sworn in by the Palace Secretary of Umuchu, Prof. Chief Echezona Ifejirika, and the traditional Prime Minister of Umuchu, Chief Alphonsus Obidike.
In a remark, Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Basil Ezeigwe commended the outgone President General, Nze Charles Ezenwabasili for a peaceful regime.
He also congratulated the new President and all the winners and charged them to serve Umuchu diligently with their God-given potentials.
