A suspected ritualist has been rescued by the police from jungle justice after alleged murder of a 25-year old man in Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state.
The suspect, simply identified as Leberechi was said to have concealed the dismembered body of the deceased inside a refrigerator in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was apprehended by angry mob who descended on him and were about to set him ablaze when police arrived the scene.
“He was already unconscious before the police stormed the scene and whisked him away,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect is currently under armed guard in a hospital he was rushed to for medical attention.
He said the remains of the dismembered body of the 25-year old man has since been evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
He said, “The Anambra State Police Command Operatives attached to the Okpoko Division on September 2, 2025 rescued a suspect from an attempted jungle justice after he was alleged to have murdered a 25-year old male and concealed the victimโs dismembered body inside a refrigerator at Okpoko.
“The suspect later identified as Leberechi, other names unknown, and about 30 years of age was already in an unconscious state before he was arrested.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is currently under armed guard to prevent escape.
“The Operatives visited the scene of the murder and discovered the decomposed body parts of the victim hidden inside a refrigerator.
“The remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu has directed immediate transfer of the Case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a thorough investigation and to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.”
