The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Anambra State chapter, has staged a peaceful rally in Awka in support of operation Udogachi, the state homeland security outfit.
Speaking during the rally, Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Student Matters, Comrade Okoye Matthew Okpala, said the students show of solidarity was proof that the government was doing well in the area of security.
He described Soludo as the best governor in Nigeria for making safety of lives and property a top priority.
The delegation comprising of students across higher institutions of learning led by the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Chairman, Comrade Ikechukwu Chukwuemeka Chukwuemelia, said their solidarity was to appreciate Governor Soludo administration for ensuring that campuses and communities across the state remain safe.
He noted that students could now move freely without fear, adding that the presence of the security outfit had drastically reduced crime, especially during the election period.
In his response, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi who received the students at Light House commended them for their support, stating that security remains the number one pillar of Gov. Soludo administration.
He acknowledged that cases of kidnapping and robbery have reduced in the state and called on political parties and stakeholders not to politicize security issues.
He assured the students that government would continue to make their safety a priority while consolidating on other sectors such as infrastructure, education, health and environment.
