Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Chief George Moghalu has expressed confidence that votes of the electorates must count in the November 8 election in Anambra state.

Moghalu who gave the assurance on Thursday in Awka while inaugurating the 21 local government area Campaign Council however noted such could only be possible if the votes were protected.

According to him, when rigging is made impossible when attempts to rig elections are vehemently resisted by the electorate.

“There is no way this election can be rigged because when we make it impossible for them to rig, nobody can rig and we must resist any attempt for anybody to rig this election” he said.

Moghalu further allayed fears over reports alleging that Presidential candidate of the Party, Mr Peter Obi might have dumped his party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He said refuting the rumour followed Obi’s presence at the campaign of the ADC State Assembly candidate for Onitsha North 1 bye-election slated for Saturday which had raised dust in some quarters.

Stressing that Obi had already explained why he attended the campaign rally, Moghalu said he (Obi) had already issued a statement concerning the rally and had announced that he would commence his own gubernatorial election campaigns for the Labour Party.

“We shall be commencing the campaign tour of the 21 local government areas after the conduct of the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election and that of Onitsha North 1 state constituency.

“You all know that our party had challenges about the upcoming by-election but the party is still in court and I’m expecting situation reports.

“So this is to tell all and sundry that there is no cause for alarm and to let us know that our Presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi remains a member of the Labor Party and is leading us in this campaign,” he said.

Earlier, Director General of Moghalu Campaign Organization, Arch Okey Chukwuogo said the essence of setting up the Campaign Council was for the members to be the eyes and ears of the party candidate, charging them to continue with the mobilization.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh described the November 8 gubernatorial election as a make or mar exercise, adding that it doesn’t stop at supporting the candidate but to reach out for more supporters.
