Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth Wing, in collaboration with ASATU Women Wing, has organized a one day seminar on healthy living and formally inaugurated Community Lady Organizers to champion grassroot health awareness campaign across 179 communities in the state.
Speaking to Journalists in Awka, the President General of ASATU Youth, Comrade Ken Okoli, emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that the campaign aims to promote wellness, encourage civic participation and support the re-election bid of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. Okoli stated that the Healthy Living initiative, founded by the First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, will be a cornerstone of community engagement and public health advocacy.
โOur focus is to take the message of healthy living down to the grassroots. It is about nutrition, regular exercise, environmental cleanliness, relaxation, community values and staying drug free,โ โAs youth and women leaders, we must lead by example. This is not just a campaign, it s a movement that must reach all 179 communities.โOkoli stated
He further stressed that only a healthy population can effectively participate in governance and elections, urging all eligible voters to get ready to support Soludo re-election.
Also speaking, Acting President of ASATU Women Wing, Lady Joy Otti, highlighted the critical role of women in the campaign. โWomen are central to the health and well-being of our communities. We will take this message back home and ensure that every woman understands the importance of healthy living. From the markets to the churches and community meetings, we will carry this message.โ
The State Coordinator of the ASATU Youth Ladies Wing, Mrs. Umennaka Akunnia, in her remarks charged women to be health advocates in their homes and communities. โThis initiative is about helping our women live right, eat right and raise healthier families. It is also about standing behind Mrs. Nonye Soludo call to stay drug-free and active,โ she said.
In a keynote lecture, Head of Training at the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Awka Area Office Mrs. Nnenna Nwadike who spoke on leadership stressed the need for women leaders to lead by example and embody the qualities they wish to promote in their communities.
Highlight of the event was unveiling of Healthy Living Handbook, which will guide community leaders and newly inaugurated Lady Organizers in spreading the message.
