President Bola Tinubu has assured candidate All Progressives Congress (APC) Evan Nicholas Ukachukwu of his full support ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday while presenting the APC flag to Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife at the State House in Abuja.
He expressed optimism about the APC emerging victorious in the upcoming poll.
He expressed full support and confidence on the candidate and his running mate’s ability to win the election.
He assured them that the party would stand by them “come rain, come shine,” emphasizing that victory is paramount.
He said, “Go and get me Anambra. We are going to work with you. We are going to stand with you come rain come shine. That is all I can assure you.
“The party is supreme, but victory is superior and very important.”
Tinubu commended the leadership of the party at both national and state levels for their efforts towards the success of the candidate and the party during the gubernatorial primary in April.
He particularly praised the choice of Senator Ekwunife as Ukachukwu’s running mate, describing her as a “round peg in a round hole.”
“Distinguished Senator Ekwunife, your choice as our candidate’s running mate is a superlative one. I have no doubt of the party’s victory with you and our flagbearer.
“We are putting you forward in order to hold the party in trust for us and achieve victory for us. You and our candidate have been described as giant killers, and I wish you both success,” he said.
The event was attended by prominent party members, including National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, was also in attendance.
With the party flag in hand, Ukachukwu and Ekwunife are poised to take on the challenge of winning the governorship election, backed by support of Mr President and the APC leadership.
Anambra Daily gathered that for months, Ukachukwu has been working to get the attention and endorsement of the president for the November poll.
A source said he had reached out to many contacts to facilitate the meeting, as Soludo was almost gaining upper hand both in the state and in the federal level.
“Lucky for him his moves clicked today. He had earlier reached out to some APC governors for help. All he needed was to be seen with the president to boost the ticket in his hands,” the source said.
No doubts, this latest move must have sent jittery to the camp of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, particularly the governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
There is perceived confidence of victory among APGA members, particularly after Tinubu’s state visit to the state where he “endorsed” Soludo for a second term, describing him as his friend, and one who knows the way.
