The National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) in Anambra State has raised the alarm over ravaging erosion menace at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma, speaking on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony of 2022 Batch B stream 1 orientation course, regretted that structures in the camp were being threatened by the erosion.

She appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to their rescue by expediating action on the landscaping of the premises so as to rescue the facility from the impending scourge.

She said, “I wish to remind the Governor of the need to address the erosion menace inside the orientation playground.

“A casual look around the camp reveals different portions already ravaged by the erosion and if not checked early, might threaten the existing structures and destroy the beauty of the camp that has attracted the admiration of all.

“As we wait for government, we’re taking proactive steps to curtail extent of the damages. We’ve filled up some part of the erosion as temporary measure as we can’t fold our hands while erosion sack us from the camp.”

While congratulating the 1,790 corps members for qualifying for the mobilization into the scheme, Iruma assured them of their safety and security during and after the orientation exercise.

“I’ve met with number of traditional rulers and security agencies to increase measures towards the corps members welfare and security. There’s day and night patrol vigilante provided by the monarchs.

“The state government has also assured priority attention to various concerns of corps members. Besides, the synergy we have with security agencies is robust encouraging.

“We do hope you will translate your talents into practical terms by contributing meaningfully in the different committees and activities you will be co-opted into.

“This is the time when your different leadership qualities will be put to test and I urge you to endeavour to keep accurate accounts of yourselves and your background,” she added.
