There is relief in Anambra following the safe return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Rev. Sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka.

The Anambra State Police Command on Saturday, August 15, 2026, confirmed that both victims have been released and have safely returned.

The Command said it is now working to establish the circumstances surrounding their release while gathering critical information that could aid the ongoing investigation and lead to the identification and arrest of those behind the abduction.

Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the safe return of the victims and ordered intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down the perpetrators.

“The safe return of the victims is welcome news, but our work is far from over. We are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for this criminal act,” the Command stated.

The ongoing security operation involves the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), the Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba Security Operatives, and other relevant security agencies.

The Police Command also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in apprehending the suspects.

The Command expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support and cooperation throughout the incident.

The latest development comes as security agencies step up efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and bring those responsible to justice.
