Chief Onyedika Joseph Chinwuba has formally entered the race for the Anambra State House of Assembly seat representing Anambra West Constituency after obtaining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Expression of Interest Form.
His declaration signals the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched contest in one of Anambra State’s most challenging and strategically important riverine constituencies. Supporters from the constituency’s 10 wards gathered in solidarity as Chinwuba formally stepped into the race, describing his ambition as a reflection of long-standing grassroots demand for more inclusive and responsive representation.
Speaking after picking the form at the APGA headquarters in Abuja, Chinwuba said his aspiration is rooted in a commitment to equal representation for every part of Anambra West.
“Onwa gburu gburu. One light, every ward, every family. Onwa tie, onye obuna afu ife,” he said, explaining that just as the full moon shines on all communities without discrimination, his representation would reach every ward and household across the constituency.
Observers note that his message resonates strongly in Anambra West, a constituency that continues to grapple with annual flooding, difficult terrain, and inadequate infrastructure despite ongoing development efforts by successive APGA-led administrations in the state.
While acknowledging the progress recorded under APGA governments, Chinwuba maintained that the peculiar realities of Anambra West require focused legislative advocacy and sustained attention at the State Assembly.
According to him, the constituency needs a representative who understands the unique environmental and developmental challenges facing riverine communities and is prepared to consistently push those concerns on the floor of the House.
He pledged to pursue equitable representation for all communities in the constituency, particularly underserved riverine areas that residents say have historically received limited attention.
Community stakeholders present at the event, including elders, women leaders, farmers, and fishermen, described Chinwuba as a familiar figure within the constituency whose relationship with the people predates the current political season.
A community elder from Ezi-Anam said Chinwuba’s “Onwa Gburu Gburu” title reflects years of visible engagement with local communities rather than political branding.
“With his message of one light for every family, people connect easily because they believe he understands their realities,” the elder said.
