The traditional ruler of Ivite-Anam Kingdom, Igwe Sunday Udoji Ozoemena, has disclosed plans to secure autonomy for the four communities that make up the kingdom.

“We want to break Ivite-Anam into four for effective management for the good of the people. I’m not interested in seating on a big throne, presiding over affairs of four large communities without effectively taking care of their needs.

Igwe Oranyeli, as the monarch is addressed, made the declaration while fielding questions with the media ahead of his Maiden Ofala celebration slated for April 7, 2026 at Mmiata Anam.

Igwe Ozoemena spoke against the backdrop of recent move by Aboegbu to break away from Ivite-Anam Kingdom with the crowning of Chief Dr. Christopher Melikam Okonkwo as Igwe Idumaneke of Umuoba Aboegbu Anam, in the aftermath of his failed bid to emerge the winner during traditional rulership election.

Describing the decision by Aboegbu to withdraw from the kingdom in their bid to pursue an Autonomous Community as a “little challenge which will be sorted out soon”, the monarch clarified that he was fully committed to the project as well.

“If I have the power to sign so that Ivite-Anam will be divided into four Autonomous Communities, I will easily sign it right away. But it’s not within my powers. It Involves, Executive, Legislative and Judicial process and we will push the state government to do that because that is what we want”, he said.

According to him, the question is not whether he would accept to divide Ivite-Anam into four Autonomous communities.

“The question is why has it not happened up till now? How come that four communities were lumped up in one Ivite-Anam Autonomous Community when actually only Unuonuora alone is larger than many communities that have two three traditional rulers in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State? He queried.

“What I’m here for is to get the best for Ivite-Anam Kingdom and I think that what is best for my community is to break it into smaller Autonomous communities for effective administrative management.

“If one monarch is presiding over seven towns, he may not have enough time to move around to know challenges facing his subjects and attend to them.

Ozoemena also disclosed that he was committed to granting Aboegbu full representation on the Ivite-Anam royal cabinet as soon as the issue is sorted out.

“If you look at the cabinet list recently published you will find out that Aboegbu’s representation is not up to that of the three other communities in Ivite-Anam Iyiora, Umudenze and Umuonuorah.

“But as soon as we sort this challenge out, they will have their full representation in the cabinet.

“Our duty is to bring everybody inside the tent (kingdom). And we will do that because we have just one tent (kingdom) in Ivite-Anam. We will try our best to bring everybody into that tent”, he stresses.
