Selected residents of Anambra State, including public servants, children from orphanage homes and other underprivileged individuals, on March 7, 2026, gathered at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) premises Agu-Awka, to receive palliatives distributed by the Anambra State Chapter of the City Boy Movement.
Addressing journalists during the distribution, the Anambra State Director of the City Boy Movement, Sir Nonso Ozoemena, explained that the items were not meant as political inducements or empowerment but as support for people observing the Lenten fasting period.
He emphasised that similar support had earlier been extended to Muslims in the northern part of the country during Ramadan, adding that the movement considered it necessary to also support Christians during the Lenten season, especially the less privileged.
According to him, the movement plans to commence empowerment programmes next week, which will be conducted quarterly, with mini empowerment initiatives organised periodically.
Ozoemena also noted that the City Boy Movement aims to strengthen the connection between Anambra State and the federal government, encouraging Ndi Igbo to align with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to benefit from national opportunities.
He disclosed that a total of 3,000 cartons of family-size palliatives were distributed. Each of the 21 Local Government Area coordinators of the movement received 100 cartons to further distribute to vulnerable residents in their respective areas. The items, he said, are expected to sustain families for two to three days.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Head of the Zonal Secretariat of the City Boy Movement, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, said the programme was a nationwide effort by the movement to support both Christians and Muslims during their fasting periods.
He explained that the items, which include sachet tomatoes, rice, spaghetti, sugar, groundnut oil among other items were provided to help families break their fast and ease the burden of the season.
Onyeagba maintained that the exercise was purely humanitarian and not politically motivated, stressing that the movement’s goal is to assist vulnerable people across the country.
He added that while criticism is common in politics, members of the movement believe that supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the right political direction for the South East.
In his appreciation speech, a beneficiary from the Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home in Agulu, Anaocha LGA Master Chima Bright, thanked the City Boy Movement for the gesture.
He said the support had touched their lives and served as a reminder that there are still compassionate individuals willing to assist the vulnerable.
Bright prayed that God would bless members of the movement with wisdom and strength to continue making a difference, noting that their generosity would have lasting impact on the lives of children living with health challenges.
