Prospective Students Who Fail Drug Integrity Test to Forfeit Admission – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Metallurgical Training Institute (MTI) Onitsha, Anambra state have expressed their readiness to collaborate and strengthen proactive measures to combat drug abuse and trafficking.

State Commander of the Agency, CN Onubogu Charles Orakwue, during a courtesy and advocacy visit to the MTI emphasized the importance of partnership.

According to him, such partnership between NDLEA and educational institutions is vital in addressing drug related challenges among youths.

He said, “The visit is to formally introduce and advocate for the Drug Integrity Testing Programme for newly admitted prospective students, as directed by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd).

“The programme requires all prospective students to undergo drug integrity testing as a prerequisite for admission.

“Candidates who test positive will not be admitted but may reapply in the next academic session upon testing negative”

Principal Staff Officer in Charge of Media, Advocacy, and Training, CSN Onyema Priscilla, further enlightened the MTI management on the importance of drug integrity testing as a preventive measure against drug abuse.

She stressed that the initiative is designed for the overall well-being of trainees and the safety of society at large.

Responding on behalf of the institution, the MTI management commended the NDLEA Anambra State Command, under the leadership of CN Onubogu Orakwue, for the timely visit and insightful sensitization.

The Director/CEO, Engr. Dr. F. U. Obi, assured the Command of the institute’s total cooperation and readiness to collaborate fully with NDLEA.

He noted that while admission for the current session had already closed, the Drug Integrity Testing Programme would be fully incorporated into subsequent admission exercises.

The State Commander expressed profound gratitude to the MTI Director/CEO and management for their swift approval and cooperation, expressing confidence that the partnership would significantly enhance the national campaign against drug abuse.
