The Digitized Initiative for Upskilling Career Development and Innovation (DIUSCADI), with its guiding motto “Shape the Young, for Future Career Success,” has called on Nigerian students to decisively reject examination malpractice and embrace integrity as the foundation for sustainable academic and career growth.
The charge was given by the Founder and Convener of DIUSCADI, Prof. Iyke Ikechukwu Umeh, during a student engagement session focused on the topic: “Examination Malpractice: Causes, Types and Effects on Educational Development.”
Addressing members of the initiative, Prof. Umeh described examination malpractice as a dangerous menace that has eaten deep into the fabric of Nigerian educational culture. He warned that while malpractice may appear as a shortcut to success, it ultimately weakens intellectual capacity, erodes character, and undermines national development.
“Examination malpractice is not good. It destroys confidence, credibility and competence. If you must succeed, let it be through diligence and integrity,” he admonished.
He urged students to become worthy ambassadors of both the foundation and their respective institutions by upholding ethical standards. According to him, academic excellence must be built on preparation, discipline and strategic study habits rather than desperation.
Prof. Umeh advised students to organize group tutorials, read collaboratively, and cultivate the habit of thoroughly understanding examination questions before attempting answers. He noted that excessive anxiety often contributes to poor performance, encouraging students to prepare early, avoid lateness to examination halls, and maintain healthy habits.
“Eat well. Your brain needs proper nourishment to function effectively. Prepare early enough. Avoid unnecessary tension. When you are adequately prepared, confidence naturally follows,” he added.
The session was interactive, as students took turns to ask questions and seek clarification on academic challenges and coping strategies.
Speaking on behalf of members, the General Coordinator of DIUSCADI, Divine Onwuji, expressed appreciation to the Convener for his consistent mentorship and practical guidance. He encouraged fellow students to internalize the lessons shared and translate them into action.
He noted that DIUSCADI is equipping members with skills and values that will distinguish them after graduation, adding that the initiative primarily targets finalists and graduates who are preparing to transition into the professional world.
The event was further highlighted by the distribution of food palliatives, including noodles, biscuits and other essential items, to members of the initiative. The gesture, which was warmly received, left the students visibly excited and appreciative.
