Anambra Ministry Inaugurates Butchers’ Association New Executive Officers at Umunya

The Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Engr. Michael Obiekwe, has inaugurated the newly elected 11 – Member Exco of Onyeaghana Nwanneya Butchers Association Market, Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area where Chinedu Ubah emerged winner as Chairman with 55 votes.

Inaugurating the new executives at the Dried Meat and General Food market, Umunya, venue of the election, Engr Michael Obiekwe charged them to abide by the law guiding them and avoid acts capable of dragging their image to the mud.

“It is now left for you to lead the people in peace. By the powers vested upon me by Mr. Governor, Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, I, Engr.Michael Obiekwe, Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of industry and Commerce, today inaugurate you, 11-man elected executive to lead Onyeaghananwanneya Butchers’ Association market, Umunya”.

“I pray for your progress and expansion with the fear of God as you have a four year tenure to lead. I wish all other elections we will conduct across other markets will be peaceful like this one. Leaders must adhere to their Constitution in line with the laws guiding markets in Anambra State” said Obiekwe.

Earlier in his speech, the President General, PG, Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association, ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anuna-, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and urged the new chairman, Hon. Chinedu Uba, and his executives to always carry the interest of the traders at heart.

Chief Anuna reiterated the resolve of the State Government to better the welfare of the traders adding that since he assumed office as ASMATA PG peace which eluded the traders was restored and Internally Generated Revenue, IGR improved upon.

In his speech, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chief Samuel Ifurunwa, lauded Soludo for the peaceful election in the state adding that the people have not experienced this before.

Ifurunwa paid glowing tribute to SPAD, Permsec, and ASMATA PG for the peaceful conduct of the Butchers’ election and prayed that other markets that elections will be conducted in, will emulate the Butchers.

Contributing, ASMATA Electoral Committee Secretary and Chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market Nkpor, Chief Stephen Ofoleh (Award) advised the newly elected Exco to heed to the advise given by by ASMATA PG and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

“I thank the Onyeaghana Nwanneya Butchers Association for the maturity they displayed during the election especially the stepping down of the other Chairmanship aspirant to allow the incumbent Caretaker Chairman to continue unopposed.

“I advise the new Exco not to disappoint the butchers who gave them their mandate but follow the footsteps of the Solution Governor in implementing purposeful leadership in their market, said Ofoleh.

In his post election speech, the newly elected chairman, Hon. Uba pledged not to disappoint his people adding that they have reason for voting en masse for him as he was declared unopposed.

“I have the intention of restoring the lost glory of Butchers not only in Umunya but in the entire state. Dealing in cow business is like dealing in motor business where a lot of money is invested in and as such we have to be careful not to incurr loss.

“I commend all that contributed to my victory especially my co-contest Ebelechukwu Nwankwo who stepped down for me few minutes to the election and I pledge to carry everyone along. I commend SPAD, Permsec, ASMATA PG and the Electoral Committee chairman for this peaceful election and prayed God to continue to guide and protect you,” said Ubah.

The new elected Exco include: Hon. Chinedu Ubah – chairman, Ezema Chinweike- Vice, Chairman, Mrs Clara Oraegbunam- Secretary, Peter Onwurah- Asst secretary, Chife Boniface,- Financial secretary, Okafor Anagor- Treasurer.

Others are: Obinna Oraegbunam- PRO, Osinachi Okonkwo- Provost 1, Ngwu Ejike- Provost II, Eke Anthony- Welfare officer 1, and Rita Ilodiuba- Welfare officer II.
