Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is set to launch a comprehensive Social and Moral Rebirth Project to restore discipline, integrity and hard work among youths and the wider society.

Commissioner for Information Dr. Law Mefor made the announcement during the Grand Celebration of Anambra Community Role Models organised by the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) Youths at the ASTUC Secretariat, Old Government House, Awka.

Mefor disclosed that the project is rooted in the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 which seeks not only to tackle crime but also to address the rising erosion of traditional Igbo values.
According to him, the state is witnessing “an invasion of strange, non-Igbo values,” making it imperative to rebuild the moral foundation of communities.

“There is no wealth without work,” he warned, urging youths to shun Yahoo Yahoo, okite, and shortcuts to success.
“What you are doing at ASTUC is exactly what the Governor wants , celebrating discipline, excellence and genuine role models.”

He also highlighted the need for young people to embrace smart work, communication skills and self discipline in a rapidly changing world, citing Barack Obama as a global example of the power of words and diligence.

Dr. Mefor noted that the Soludo administration has trained over 60,000 youths in digital skills through the Solution Innovation District, and empowered more than 10,000 youths through the One Youth Two Skills Programme across 65 skill areas. He pledged that the Ministry of Information would partner with ASTUC Youths to strengthen grassroots governance and youth development.

In his welcome address, Comrade Ken Okoli, President of ASTUC Youth Wing, said the celebration was the culmination of a deliberate effort to identify and honour individuals whose lifestyles embody values that can guide the next generation.

He described the role model project, which began in January 2024, as a strategic move to provide community based examples for young people, noting that 179 nominees were shortlisted across communities before being reduced to 21 star role models and finally three Mega Star Role Models, one from each senatorial zone.

“This event is not just about awards; it is about shaping the language of value that builds societies. We worked wholeheartedly to ensure the success of the election, and today we are proud to celebrate the values that sustain our communities.”he said.

In a separate remark, one of the Mega Star Role Model recipients, Very Rev. Fr. Basil Ekwunife, representing Anambra North, described the recognition as a privilege he never anticipated. He praised the transparency of the selection process and urged youths to cherish and maximize every opportunity presented by God, stressing the need to redefine values in an era of moral challenges.

Also speaking, the Anambra Central award recipient, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi, represented by Mr. Umeadi Uchenna, and the Anambra South Mega Star Role Model, Chief Chukwuebuka Onunkwo, jointly called on youths to pursue legitimate work and embrace lifestyles worthy of emulation. They emphasized that their recognition reflects genuine service and consistent values, not influence or financial power.
They urged well to do individuals to lead by example and show young people that wealth comes from hard work not fraudulent ventures or destructive practices.

The event also featured victory celebration and the launch of a music album.
