One person Killed, Another Injured as Truck Crash into Commercial Vehicle in Anambra

One person lost his life while one other sustained serious injury in a fatal auto crash along Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra state.

The crash which occured around 2.40pm at Igbariam Junction involved a truck and commercial bus with four passengers on board.

According to eyewitnesses, the ARTMA operatives stopped to arrest a stationary vehicle on the road only to discover tHt it had tyre fault.

“The truck was attempting to maneuver when one of its tyres caught up with the bus and dragged it into the gutter, trapping the bus under the trailer”, the witness stated.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno attributed the cause of the crash to loss of control.

She expressed sympathy for the deceased family and wished the injured a quick recovery.

“We deeply regret this tragic loss and commend the swift action of our officers.

“This incident underscores the urgent need for all drivers to observe speed limits, avoid reckless maneuvers, and maintain full control of their vehicles at all times.”

She added, “Upon arrival, the FRSC rescue team extricated the trapped occupants. The injured victim was rushed to Chira Hospital, Awkzu, for emergency medical care, while the deceased was taken to Jerusalem Hospital, Nteje.

“The trailer was lifted by an RCC crane to clear the scene, and the road was freed of obstruction shortly thereafter.

“The FRSC Anambra Command’s priority is to save lives and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible. We will continue enforcing traffic laws and educating the public to prevent similar incidents.”
