Christmas: Anambra Govt Vows to Host “Most Memorable December Experience”

Anambra state government has announced its plans to organize what it termed most memorable December experience ever celebrated in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor who disclosed this on Tuesday said the decision was part of resolutions reached 23rd Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting, held at Light House, Awka.

He said the celebration branded “Onwa Dezemba” would be held at the Solution Fun City, Awka, the reconstructed and remodeled Ekwueme Square and other locations.

He said, “The Council received and refined a report on plans to give Ndi Anambra the most memorable December experience ever, branded “Onwa Dezemba”

“The magnificent festivities, to be held at the Solution Fun City, Awka, the reconstructed and remodeled Ekwueme Square, etc., are planned as a Christmas unlike any other.

“They will include masquerade festivals, Christmas Carols and musical fiestas with well-known Nigerian musicians, among others.”

According to Mefor, the Council welcomed Prof Ugochukwu Anyaehie, recently appointed substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, wishing him a very eventful term.

He however urged university autonomy in choosing vice chancellors.

“Chief Willie Obiano, the immediate past governor of Anambra State, was the subject of a death rumour that went viral on social media.

“The Council strongly denounced this report, calling it sad and reckless and thanked God for the excellent health enjoyed by the state’s past leader.

On awarded projects, the Commissioner disclosed the Council approved the sum N87,168,413.00 only, as the annual premium for the provision of asset insurance policy/coverage for the Light House, Awka, through a long-term agreement of five (5) years in the first instance.

“The Council approved the sum of N171,483,629.00 for modification & completion of the abandoned court building and the renovation/upgrade of associated structures within the Court of Appeal Complex, Awka.

“It also approved the sum of N330,503,966.57 for the rehabilitation of failed portions of the Court Road and Obunagu Road, within the Awka Metropolis.

“The sum of N443,408,923.03 was approved for the supply & installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, Umueze-Isuofia, Aguata LGA.

“The sum of N297,904,000.00 was approved for the supply & installation of additional furniture at the Government House Theatre and the Multi-purpose Hall of Light House, Awka.

“The sum of N346,871,788.00 was approved for the rehabilitation of failed portions of the St. Thomas Aquinas Road, GRA Awka-Min of Lands-Ekwulobia Street-Chief Abose Ejeagwu Lane.

“The sum of N85,311,850.58 was approved for the supply & installation of 32kva solar power system at Country Club of Solution Fun City, Awka.

“The sum N1,773,559,976.65 was approved for the construction of Ikenga-Isuofia-Igboukwu Discharge Channel.

“The sum of N90,450,858.84 was approved for the construction of the Solution Park & Pay Garage at Ekwulobia, comprising office building, gate house, toilet facility, concrete floor, park gazebo with solar panel stands & park benches and perimeter fence.

“The sum of N476,326,657.37 was approved for the extension of electricity to Iyiora Anam Community and Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital, Aguleri

“The sum of N240,250,645.24k for the installation of a 3-way traffic light system at Igwe Orizu Junction (Lot 1) and a 4-way traffic light system at the Nnewi Roundabout, along the Nnewi-Ozubulu Dual Carriageway, Nnewi (Lot 2), with pedestrian lights at both locations.”
