The Anambra Drivers Forum has endorsed re-election of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8 election.
Speaking at a mega solidarity rally at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, Coordinator of the Anambra Drivers Forum, Comrade Osita Obi, cited reforms that have restored order, dignity, and accountability in the state’s transport sector as reasons for the group’s endorsement.
He praised the Governor for what he described as “a courageous, visionary and people-centred transformation of the transport system in Anambra State.”
Obi who doubles as Head of the Media Sub-Committee of the event said, “the era of touts, multiple taxation, and illegal levies” had been decisively curtailed under Soludo’s leadership.
“For many years, our parks and motor routes were battlegrounds of extortion, harassment, and lawlessness. Drivers toiled day and night while touts and illegal task collectors feasted on their sweat.
“Then came Soludo — a man of courage, vision, and compassion. He heard our cry and acted with firmness and fairness,” Obi declared, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd,” he said.
Obi noted that the digital unified ticketing system introduced by the Soludo administration had brought transparency and sanity to revenue collection in the transport sector, ensuring that drivers now operate “with dignity and safety, free from intimidation.”
He also commended the governor’s Smart Transportation Management System, which, according to him, has “enhanced road safety, reduced congestion, and improved traffic flow across major cities.”
He said Soludo’s administration had invested heavily in road rehabilitation and construction, thereby opening up communities, industrial corridors, and markets for business and mobility.
“These are not stories told on radio or television; they are realities we live and breathe every day,” Obi stressed. “That is why we must stand firm behind Soludo — the people’s governor, the friend of drivers, and the reformer of our transport system.”
The rally, attended by top government officials, members of transport unions, and representatives from across the 21 local government areas, was described as a “renewed covenant” between the transport community and the Soludo administration.
While urging his colleagues to mobilize for the governor’s second-term bid, Obi promised that the transport sector would “drive the message of continuity and consolidation” ahead of the election.
“We will not return to the dark days of touts, intimidation, and exploitation.
“Come November, we will drive our vehicles from Nkpor to Nnewi, Awka to Onitsha, Agulu to Ihiala, with one voice and one message — Soludo Again! Consolidation 2025!”
The rally ended with solidarity chants and pledges from drivers’ unions reaffirming their loyalty to the governor and commitment to sustaining the ongoing reforms in the state’s transport system.
