Anambra Guber Race: Okpuno Women Declare Support for Soludo’s Re-election

Women groups in Okpuno community, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have declared total support for the re-election bid of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.
The women, adorned in colorful traditional attires, expressed their solidarity through energetic dance steps and musical renditions during the Okpuno Ward endorsement rally and inauguration of polling unit campaign council held at Ezinifite Village Square.

Speaking during the event, the Chairlady of Ezinifite Village Okpuno Women Band Mrs. Elizabeth Okoye described Governor Soludo as the most qualified leader to continue steering the affairs of the state. She praised his focus on human capital development and assured that the women of Okpuno would deliver their votes to him.

Similarly, Mrs. Nkemdili Rose of Iruemego Women Organization commended Soludo’s inclusive governance style, saying he had remembered the forgotten and deserved a second term while Mrs. Florence Okoye of Umuodu Women Association described the governor’s administration as “perfect,” noting that his recognition and the appointment of Prince Chinedu Okafor as Mayor, reflected his commitment to grassroots empowerment.

Also speaking, the Convener of Women Alliance for Soludo Mrs. Chioma Ekwo and Chairperson of Umuokafor Anaefuna Family Women Cultural Dance declared that Okpuno was for Soludo, citing his landmark achievements including the construction of the new Government House. “He has set a standard no governor has achieved before,” they said, adding that his good works have made his second tenure sure.

In his response, the Deputy Governor Dr. Onyeka Ibezim thanked the women and people of Okpuno for their unwavering support and urged them to come out en masse to vote on election day, assuring that Awka South would again deliver the highest number of votes for Soludo.

On his part, Awka South Campaign Council Chairman and Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko, commended the people for their massive turnout, describing Okpuno as “100 percent APGA land.” He noted that Okpuno ward with 30 polling units and over 27,000 registered voters, could easily deliver 10,000 votes for the governor.

Dr. Onuko who inaugurated the polling unit campaign council, announced that each unit would have at least 50 active members to ensure total victory for Soludo and promised that ongoing road projects, including the one at Goodwill Junction, would be completed soon.

Stakeholders including Sir Rufus Kachi, Prince Ekene Obidimma and Okpuno Youth Leader Comrade Charles Onyema also reaffirmed their commitment to the Soludo-led administration, citing his infrastructural strides and empowerment initiatives in Okpuno. They described him as “Olu Atuegwu” the one who works tirelessly for the people.

The event also featured voter education session where participants were taught how to cast valid votes to avoid errors during the election.
