Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu has criticised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for turning the 2025 Teachers’ Day celebration into a political exercise instead of opportunity to address challenges facing educators across the state.
Moghalu, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Johnson Okoye described as unfortunate the directive compelling teachers and school proprietors to participate in a rally organised under the guise of celebrating teachers.
He condemned alleged instruction to school principals to submit the photocopy of teachers’ voter’s cards, including their polling unit details and phone numbers, ahead of the event, describing it as “a blatant act of political intimidation and abuse of authority.”
He urged the Governor to channel his energy toward addressing real issues confronting teachers, including poor remuneration, lack of teaching materials, delayed promotions and inadequate infrastructure.
“Teachers’ Day is globally recognised as a time to celebrate the invaluable role of teachers and reflect on their welfare, not a platform for partisan mobilisation.
“Before organising rallies in their name, the governor should first address their welfare package and conditions of service,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to quality education, Moghalu assured that under a Labour Party-led government, education would be treated as the foundation of development.
He promised improved welfare for teachers, investment in modern learning facilities, and the restoration of dignity to the teaching profession.
“Teachers are not political instruments; they are nation builders who deserve respect, motivation, and sincere leadership,” he concluded.
