A philanthropist, Prince Chudie Obinabo has offered scholarships to 25 talented pupils and students of various schools in Ifitedunu in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state.

The scholarship, the ninth edition, which coincided with the benefactor’s birthday was offered under his Ozo Onyeaghananwanneya foundation.

Speaking during the presentation on Wednesday, Obinabo said the gesture was in demonstration of his commitment to providing high quality education using modern techniques.

“For nine years now, this scholarship has been uninterrupted, focusing on supporting indigent students from both polytechnics and Universities.

“Like last event, this year is very spectacular, as we have continued our second phase, where we will be awarded scholarships to young, talented pupils from nursery and primary schools.

“Notably, we’ve partnered with Cherrybloom Montessori school, Ifitedunu, which has demonstrated commitment to providing high quality education using modern techniques,” he said.

Appreciating support of key individuals, particularly chairman of the scholarship award committee, Chief Samuel Nweke and secretary, Comrade Chukwudi Chiobi, the benefactor said their dedication has been instrumental to the initiative’s success.

President General, Ifitedunu Town Union, Prof Steve Ufoaroh thanked the benefactor for his consistency in the project which he described as “celebration of human empowerment.”

He prayed God to multiply his resources, just as he urged other spirited individuals in the community to emulate the gesture as a way of keeping the people from criminality and reducing insecurity.

Ufoaroh, a stalwart of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) also charged the beneficiaries to work hard to justify the scholarship, assuring close supervision.

Scholarship award committee Chairman, Nweke said the beneficiaries drawn from five villages of the community were carefully selected on the twin basis of merit and indigency.

Highpoints of the event were presentation of scholarship awards/motivationals, cutting of birthday cake, cultural dances and other side attractions.
