Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the upcoming November 8 Anambra governorship election, Mr. Uzu Okagbue, has accused the state government of concealing critical information surrounding two recent violent incidents that have shocked residents and raised serious concerns about public safety and government transparency.

In a statement issued on Friday, Okagbue criticized the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he described as a “troubling silence” and “glaring inconsistencies” in its handling of the incidents. He warned that the government’s failure to address these matters transparently could provoke widespread public outrage.

“The Anambra State administration is sailing on a tide so dangerous that silence is no longer an option,” Okagbue declared. “What is unfolding must be investigated, unraveled, and confronted, or Ndi Anambra will rise, as history has shown, to demand answers that cannot be buried.”

Okagbue referenced two specific incidents: the assault and public humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, and the shooting of a pregnant woman and others at the Onitsha Main Market. According to him, both cases remain “shrouded in a troubling fog of deceit,” with more questions than answers being offered by state authorities.

Regarding the NYSC assault, Okagbue questioned the credibility of the suspects presented by the government, noting that eyewitnesses identified a female perpetrator, yet only male suspects have been paraded by the police.

“How does the government explain this glaring inconsistency?” he asked. “Eyewitnesses have been clear, yet the suspects in custody do not match their accounts.”

On the Onitsha market shooting, he accused the state of failing to confirm whether the actual perpetrators are in custody, and if not, why no substantial update has been given to the public.

“If the suspects are known, why is their identity not openly confirmed? If they are unknown, why the deafening silence?” Okagbue queried.

He alleged that the Soludo-led administration might be shielding the real perpetrators or enabling criminal elements through inaction.

“If this government is not hiding a conspiracy against its own people, then let it speak,” Okagbue said. “Let there be full disclosure, swiftly and transparently – just as quick as the press releases from the State Government campaign team on INEC submissions.”

Okagbue emphasized that his concerns transcend political rivalry, stating that the issue is about justice, truth, and the fundamental rights of Anambra citizens to live in a state governed by accountability and rule of law.

“This is not about politics,” he said. “This is about the sanctity of truth, justice, and the right of Ndi Anambra to live without fear. Until these matters are addressed transparently, we will not relent in demanding answers. What is at stake is not just justice for the victims, but the very soul of our state.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Government had yet to respond to the allegations made by the YPP candidate.
End.
