Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has said his administration has successfully eliminated more than sixty criminal camps located across ten troubled local government areas of the state.

He listed the affected council areas as Ihiala, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Awka North, and Aguata.

Soludo disclosed this during a press conference held on Wednesday at the Light House, Awka, to mark the 34th anniversary of Anambra’s creation.

According to the governor, the operation was carried out through the collaborative efforts of Agunechemba/Udo-ga-chi, the police, the army, the Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies operating in the state.

He stressed that criminals would not find safety under his watch in Anambra.

The governor also cautioned his co-contestants in the forthcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election against politicising insecurity in the state during their campaigns.

Speaking on development policies, Soludo emphasised that sustainable growth should prioritise agriculture, healthcare, quality education, and reliable infrastructure over short-term palliatives.

According to him, boosting agricultural productivity, creating jobs, and improving access to education and healthcare are practical examples of his administration’s commitment to genuine “stomach infrastructure.”

“Stomach infrastructure is not about distributing cash or offering appointments as special advisers.
“It is about ensuring that residents of Anambra have access to the basic necessities required to live with dignity and rise out of poverty.
“We have distributed over 2.6 million palm and coconut seedlings to 180,000 households; we offer free education in public schools and free antenatal care and delivery in government hospitals.

“We recruited over 1,000 health workers and 8,115 teachers. We are paying a minimum wage of N82,000, and we have cleared backlogs of pension arrears and gratuities for state and local government workers.

“We have empowered over 5,000 youths, while another 8,000 are set to graduate and be empowered. Over 600 kilometres of roads out of 800 kilometres targeted have been commissioned.

“Deploying public resources to create societal value is better than handing out money. That is what Anambra at 34 is about. Our values are based on hard work and integrity.”

The governor also highlighted key achievements of his administration in urban regeneration, governance, road infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development.
He commended law-abiding residents for their support and urged them to continue supporting government policies.

Recall that Anambra State was created on August 27, 1991, along with eight other states, by the then Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.
