The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has set its sights on a political upset of historic proportions in the 2027 general elections, targeting victory from the presidency down to the State Houses of Assembly.

The party’s Anambra State Chairman, Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, made the bold projection on Friday in Awka while addressing leaders of political support groups mobilising behind the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential project.

Uzoezie said the growing nationwide support for the Obi-Kwankwaso project had given the NDC confidence that it could challenge—and defeat—the established political order in 2027.

“Politics is all about winning, and by God’s grace, coupled with the massive support base we are receiving from groups like yours and ordinary Nigerians, 2027 is already assured for the NDC,” he said.

He continued: “Our winning will be from top to bottom. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso will win the presidency under the NDC. Those flying the party’s flag for the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as governorship and State House of Assembly seats in their respective states, will also win.”

Uzoezie described the anticipated victory as more than a change of political leadership, saying it would alter the country’s political direction.

“NDC victory will change the narrative and direction of this country,” he declared.

The Anambra NDC chairman further assured supporters and prospective members that the party would remain open to Nigerians who were prepared to join its political platform.

He called for broader participation in the emerging coalition, particularly at the grassroots, as the party begins preparations for the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Chief Fidel Okafor, Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Support Coalition in Anambra State, expressed satisfaction with the willingness of various support groups to unite behind the political project.

Okafor explained that the meeting was designed to bring the groups together, eliminate duplication of efforts and establish a coordinated structure capable of delivering electoral results.

Prof. Pat Obi, Leader of the Associates of Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement in Anambra, urged supporters to move beyond social-media mobilisation and build strong structures at the ward and polling-unit levels.

He advised members of the support groups to identify and work closely with NDC leaders in their respective wards and polling units, stressing that effective grassroots organisation would be decisive in the elections.

Obi also challenged NDC supporters across Anambra to defend Peter Obi’s political base ahead of 2027.

“They have been boasting that they will defeat Obi in his home state. We need to rise to the occasion by mobilising our members massively to ensure that Ndi Anambra repay Obi for his legacy as Governor of the state,” he said.

Comrade Charles Obiora Anueyiagu, Coordinator of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State, also called for unity among the various support groups.

He urged the leaders to subordinate individual interests to the broader objective of the coalition, arguing that a united grassroots structure would be critical to translating popular support into votes.

With the 2027 elections still ahead, the NDC’s declaration represents an ambitious challenge to Nigeria’s established political forces. Whether the party can convert its claimed support base into a nationwide electoral machine, however, will ultimately be determined at the polling units.
