Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has stressed the need to strengthen quality of basic education in the State and enhance learning outcomes for learners.
Executive Chairman, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi stated this at a 5-day intensive training for Mathematics and Science teachers across the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
The training programme tagged: “Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE), held at Central School, Awka was organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja, in collaboration with ASUBEB.
Nwadinobi explained that the training was targeted at empowering the teachers with modern pedagogical skills to boost literacy and numeracy among pupils.
She applauded the relentless commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing free and inclusive education from nursery to senior secondary level in the State which she described as critical step towards bridging learning inequality.
While urging the participants to embrace and implement the new curriculum modules introduced during the training, Nwadinobi stressed the importance of using Mother Tongue in teaching the pupils at the basic education level to inspire and shape the minds of young learners.
“Foundational learning is the bedrock upon which all academic success is built.
“This training is designed to help you become better teachers, and I encourage you to cascade the knowledge down to your colleagues at the Local Government Education Authority levels,” she stressed.
The ASUBEB boss further revealed Soludo’s plan to build public schools in communities that do not have public schools as part of efforts to ensure no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education.
