Mr. Uzuegbunam Okagbue, the deputy governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the November 8th election in Anambra State, has disclosed that he and the party’s governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, are committed to changing the governance narrative in the state.
According to him, the YPP leadership will implement policies that will benefit all three senatorial zones, ensuring that every resident feels the impact of good governance.
While speaking with members of the Anambra State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Dr. Emeka Odogwu, Okagbue highlighted the need for leadership that promotes holistic development across the state. He expressed confidence in the capacity and integrity of YPP, contending that they can effectively govern the state, unlike the incumbent administration led by APGA.
Okagbue criticized the current government’s taxation policies, which he claims unduly burden low-income earners while favoring wealthy individuals. He pledged that, if elected, he and Chukwuma would eliminate excessive taxation on vulnerable groups, including drivers of commercial vehicles and roadside traders. Additionally, they plan to launch special welfare programs for widows, indigents, and persons with disabilities.
“If elected, we will engage all citizens in governance. We want to ensure that we remain in tune with public sentiments and opinions. We will foster a robust relationship with the media, committing to address them every six months to stay aware of the people’s needs,”
