Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party, (YPP), Uzu Okagbue has decried growing cases of insecurity in Anambra state.

He regretted that people no longer start their days early enough and also no longer retire late because of the fear of the unknown.

He said, “For Anambra, the road is still far because the state is trapped in all manner of insecurity which has not only completely deleted one full day from the original six active business days but has also reduced effective business hours to a paltry 8 hours.

“No country, and indeed, no society can develop by running an 8-hour economy in just five days. Anambra cannot be the exception.

“Insecurity in the State has since been an item of popular concern in Anambra state, as Soludo’s administration struggles to respond with Udoga-Achi security operatives, which so far, has not proved to be particularly effective.”

Okagbue however proposed a 24 hour working plan to facilitate rapid development of the state across all sectors in line with international best practices.

He argued that the biggest threat to the hope of development in Anambra State is that the State cannot attain development while running an 8-hour economy.

According to Okagbue, under the current Anambra State, the economy runs from 9 am to about 5 pm, and cannot grow as no 8-hour economy can advance towards the expected dimension in any part of the world.

Reiterating his position, the YPP Deputy Governorship candidate said that the world has swiftly moved to a 24-hour economy which is why payment systems now run all day, nonstop, so that business operations are not interrupted by artificial roadblocks.

Meanwhile, the YPP Candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma and his running mate, Okagbue have intensified grassroots campaign with several engagements of various segments of the society across party lines.

In a meeting with former Anambra State Executive Council Members who served during the tenure of former Governor Peter Obi, Okagbue acknowledged the relevance of the group to the success of the team.

This, he said, has placed onerous responsibilities on the former Executive Council Members to actively rewrite the leadership trajectory in the state.

The meeting which was held in Awka Etiti, at the Country home of Chief Joe Martins Uzodike has been described by Okagbue as an impactful engagement, clarity of vision, institutional memory and shared commitment to the progress of the state.

Prominent Members of Peter Obi’s administration team like Prof Stella Okunna, Arch Callitus Ilozumba, Barr Okoli Akirika, Dr Ego Uzoezie among others attended the meeting.

Some of the key members commended Chukwuma and his deputy, reiterating that the combination is a solid team that could set the state on the right trajectory.

Uzodike, emphasized that it is important to observe that the election is not over and that anyone overlooking the YPP ticket does so at a huge political risk.
