4 students feared killed, 2 lecturers abducted as gunmen attack joints at Fedpoly Oko

Four persons said to be students of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State were reportedly shot dead Thursday night by gunmen.

AnambraDaily gathered that about seven persons, mostly students were shot at different locations by the gunmen who also allegedly abducted two lecturers.

According to an eyewitness account, some of the victims were shot at a drinking joint at Tipper Road, while others were shot at some hostels.

The source disclosed that the attackers came in two vehicles and after attacking a drinking joint around Total Filling station area, then began to attack people in their hostels.

” The gunmen attacked Total Area, Victoria Point Drinking Joint and then some hostels. We heard there was another group operating on bike. Probably they were the ones moving round shooting at people”, the source said.

A staff of the Polytechnic who spoke to our reporter, said the identity of the abducted lecturers were not yet clear while the actual number of students that were killed or wounded was not yet known.

“The only thing we are sure of is that some gunmen invaded some neighborhoods around the polytechnic and attacked people. We don’t have details of that yet”, he said.

The latest shooting, which came barely two weeks after an operator of a popular beer parlour was shot dead by unidentified gunmen, has sent panic waves across the Polytechnic community.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Police Command said its operatives have taken over the crime scene as well as making frantic efforts to arrest the perpetrators.
According to a police account of the incident, only two fatality was recorded in the shooting incident said to be cult war.

The statement issued by the Command’s Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga in the early hours OF Friday, June 20, 2025 read in parts:

“The Police Operatives led by the Area Commander Aguata, complemented by the Joint Security Force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence and Vigilante Operatives have taken over the scene of an alleged cult related shooting by 8.40pm on 19th June, 2025 at the Total Junction and Tipper junction all in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.

“Two victims including a lady who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital were rescued. Sadly, the incident recorded the death of two persons and the alleged abduction of two others.

“An eyewitness account revealed that the armed criminals operating with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a plate number, started shooting indiscriminately at the Total junction. Four persons were allegedly wounded including a lady that is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The two others were allegedly abducted at the Tipper junction before they fled the scene.”

Ikenga appealed for calm, assuring that operatives were ” already acting on some clues from the scene and leveraging on necessary information from some eyewitnesses for the possible arrest of the hoodlums.”
