As results of the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) continue to trickle in, a total of twelve students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School, Awka, Anambra state have so far scored above 300 in the exercise conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Among the highest scorers were Nzekwe Efechukwu, Izuegbu Godson and Elekwachi Praise who scored 363, 362 and 359 respectively.
Others were Ugochukwu Prince (356), Ndaguba Testimony (343), Okoli-Joshua Uchenna (324), Ibeneme Chidalu Tochukwu (316), Buchi-Umeh Nnenna (313), Okeke Chukwubuikem (313), Peter-Eze Praise and Azibuike Chisom Laurel (303).
Majority of these outstanding candidates, regrettably were among those traumatized by the botched controversial version of the exam following their abysmal performances.
While Nzekwe scored 172, Izuegbu and Elekwachi got 162 and 177 respectively in the initial exercise which the exam body attributed to technical glitches.
Speaking with our Correspondent, Principal of the school, Mrs Israel Atinuke described the best students as pacesetters in the history of the school.
She said the students’ outstanding performances did not take the school’s management by surprise in view of the quality preparations they underwent under competent teachers.
She said, “The giant stride of Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School, Awka in the JAMB examination results of this year did not really come as a surprise to the school.
“This is because we started preparing this particular set of students early enough for the examination.
“They are pacesetters in the history of the school today and we are happy as a family in the school.”
Atinuke however acknowledged the God factor in the success story, just as she underscored the place of diligence, hardwork and perseverance which were evident in the lives of the students.
“I will not, however take the grace and mercy of God for granted. l return all glory to the Lord Jesus Christ in the highest.
“My encouragement to the students has always been that diligence pays and they have experienced the reality this time around with their JAMB results,” she added.
Also speaking, Chairman, Parents Teachers Council (PTC), Prof Ugochukwu Okonkwo congratulated the students, school management, teachers and parents of the students for their diverse contributions to the feat.
“The outstanding JAMB results of the students calls for celebration. Indeed, UHS is not expected to perform less, being a school situated inside the great citadel of learning, Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
“Going through the JAMB scores of the students from the school and seeing scores of 356, 359, 362, 363 is not a mean feat by whatever measure you want to appraise it with.
“The results where good number of students scored above 300 while virtually others scored above 240 do not happen by chance. Lots of hard work, teaching strategy, dedication and rigorous preparation were involved.
“I want to congratulate all the students of UHS 2025. I also want to congratulate the School Management, Teachers and indeed the parents of these students.
“May God continue to take Unizik High School, Nnamdi Azikiwe University to greater heights,” he added.
