Tension as Gunmen Kill Lawyer, Client after Attending Court Case in Anambra

Police in Anambra State have launched a manhunt for unidentified gunmen who gruesomely murdered two persons in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of the State.

AnambraDaily gathered that one of the deceased was identified as Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasia, the President General of Aguleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Mr. Iloakasia, also known as Rolex, was reportedly ambushed and short by suspected assassins on a motorcycle before tracking down his client who fled the vehicle and also shot him. The development had sent palpable tension, especially in Anambra East Council area where Mr. Iloakasia hailed.

The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, declared the manhunt during visit to the crime scene at Egbebelu Village, Nanka, at about 11:30am on Thursday, alongside some senior officers of the Command.

According to him, preliminary information revealed that one of the victims was a legal practitioner who had just secured bail for a defendant in an ongoing murder case at High Court II, Ekwulobia.

He said, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were attacked while returning from the court session, having been trailed and double-crossed by the assailants.

“One of the victims survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The escapee has been debriefed by the Police and has provided crucial information that is aiding ongoing investigations and manhunt operations.

“The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and positively identified by their respective families. In the course of the preliminary investigations, a red Toyota Camry vehicle, believed to belong to one of the deceased, was recovered from the scene.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive investigation into the incident and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

“Further updates will be provided in due course as the investigation progresses.”
